For more than seven months, scaffolding has dominated the façade of the Foundation. The iconic eagle that overlooks the building had temporarily flown away while major renovation work was carried out.
In its absence, the teams made progress on essential stages: asbestos removal and complete renovation of the wooden structure supporting the globe and the animal were carried out. The metal structure of the globe, which has been completely restored, has already been returned to its place on the Fondation. At the end of December, taking advantage of milder weather, the sign painter also stepped in to give the building's sign, which had lost its luster over time, a facelift.
But since Tuesday, February 17, the eagle has been back on the roof of the Fondation! From the top of its promontory and hidden under the construction site tarps, the residents of Saint-Louis can see the tips of its wings, which have regained some of their original color. It must be said that the Alsacienne de Métallerie workshops in Marlenheim have carried out a major project involving significant structural and aesthetic renovations.
However, there are still a few steps to go before the building regains its original silhouette: the installation of the glass facets. Their installation has been delayed by weather conditions and the complexity of their custom manufacturing.
